When I was diagnosed with fibroids a couple of years ago, I decided to search for a non surgical treatment for fibroids rather than undergo a hysterectomy, which was the procedure recommended to me by my doctor.
In my case, my fibroids were very large-I had what can only be called a “collection”. One was as big as a small melon and several were orange-sized. I had severe problems which included bladder leakage, anemia and my abdomen resembled a 7 month pregnancy. Clothes didn’t fit me and no amount of dieting would help me lose weight. I didn’t really have the alternative of doing nothing, although I was determined to avoid surgery if at all possible. Not only have I got a fear of anesthetic, but I was afraid of taking the drugs the doctor was insisting upon which would help the fibroids shrink to make the surgery less dangerous because they had a dreadful list of side effects which included hot flashes and other menopausal symptoms, osteoporosis, thinning vaginal tissues and the appearance of wrinkles on the face. Great! Not only was I going to lose my uterus, but my youth too!
I felt even more sorry for women who had smaller fibroids. They were often more or less told to “go and live with the condition” or were offered painful and costly surgery to remove individual or groups of fibroids. The problem with this is that unless the causes of fibroids are treated, they will simply grow back.
